Flash Gordon (Sam Jones) and his girlfriend Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) together with Dr Zarkov (Topol) fly their spaceship to the land of Mongul where the Emperor exerts his reign of terror on his various subjects. They have to stop him from destroying the earth. Sci-Fi adventure after the style of the 1930's comic strips and films. This is an entertaining and in places amusing film. Whilst it is not classic Sci-Fi but it is entertaining. Sam Jones is a good follow up to Buster Crabbe in the 1930's serial adaptation. There are good supporting performances from Topol as Ming and Ornella Muti as the femme fatal. It is also helped by performances from Timothy Dalton and especially Brian Blessed. Although not a great box office success, it has developed a cult following.
